London Calling

With the Royal Wedding just around the corner and what seems to be the only thing on everyone's lips, I thought I should dedicate a street post to our stylish British friends. The London dress code of the fashionistas: black, coats, fur, leather and... more black. A dress code that I somehow think wouldn't sit well with the Royal family, but stylish woman around the world no less!

High quality fabrics, intricate detailing and unique styling are the fundamental ingredients of the Hussy label. Since it’s debut in 1995, Sydney born Marie Ritchie has maintained a strong focus on Hussy’s high fashion qualities. Her on trend pieces are sought out by a global audience while her feminine designs create garments that relates to and complements all customer bases.

Marie Ritchie started the Hussy label when she was only 21 years old with $2000 in her back pocket and an overwhelming amount of determination. She was ready to reach the top, and that she did with five flagship stores now within Australia and Indonesia. Ritchie describes the ideal Hussy woman as “self-assuring, alluring and relentlessly eye-catching, with an innate flair for effortless glamour.” Her commitment to exceed in all areas of the label from perfectly polished jewelry to shop fit outs is what makes Hussy a stand out label in Australian fashion.
Hussy’s latest winter 2011 collection titled Nomadic Wanderer combines a mixture of its signature feminine designs contrasted with edgy hardware. Embellishments, shoulder details and draped pants and maxi's are a major focus of the collection. These pieces are paired with a neutral colour palette, splashes of blue and hints of subtle prints. The Hussy label expands into accessories including shoes, bags and belts which are now receiving as much attention as the garments themselves. This cutting edge brand is closely associated with the prestigious lifestyle as it maintains its luxurious quality fabrics and a stand out point of difference.

Balayage Beauty

As beauty rules once went, having your roots noticeably darker than the rest of your hair was a sin and something that no stylish woman would have been caught dead sporting. However, Balayage, also known as Ombré, is a hair trend that has been appearing on our radar since late 2008/2009. It is the process where the colourists literally paint the hair dye through the ends of your hair without using a special 'system,' resulting in a glowing, sun-kissed look.

Balayage is designed to create natural looking highlights, requiring minimal upkeep and is therefore, the lazy girls guide to ridiculously good looking hair. There are many other fabulous things about this hair trend: it's extremely economical, incredibly low maintenance and works with most textures and tones.

This trend can be attributed to trendsetters like Pip Edwards, Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Jessica Biel who have made raw, natural looking hair sexy and desirable. Forget all the time and effort blowdrying, dying and cutting your hair into perfection, dishevelled, effortless hair is the desired look among the fashion pack. This season, convert the typically summer look into a winter favourite by using darker highlights and subtler tones for a sexy, and very stylish 'i just walked off the beach' look all year round!

Street Style: From Paris with Love

If you ever want to see the most influential people in the fashion industry, attend Paris Fashion Week. Paris Fashion Week is one event that gathers the fashion pack from around the world in the one place, at the one time. The streets is as much a live catwalk as the collections on show inside. Matching pant suits, creams, fur jackets, colour blocking and crisp white shirts seemed to be the uniform of the stylish and the fashion elite.

Brand Love: Sass & Bide

Sass and Bide will always be one of Australia’s most iconic and successful fashion labels. Born from the creativity of two best friends who shared a mutual love for fashion and vintage clothing, Sass and Bide continue to rise as one of the most dominant exports of the Australian fashion industry.

Sarah-Jane Clarke (sass) and Heidi Middleton (bide) began Sass and Bide as a small stall at London’s Portobello Road markets, achieving instant success almost immediately. In 1999 the pair returned to their hometown of Australia before debuting their first collection in 2001 at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Since their first collection they have maintained a strong focus on constructing innovative new shapes and designs and always pushing the boundaries to pave a path of their own.

Inspired by the obscure and the beautiful, Sass and Bide, have achieved world renown success expanded to over twenty countries worldwide including South-East Asia, USA, Europe and the Middle East. Sass and Bide have also been stocked in iconic Australian department store David Jones for the past ten years, recently being bought out by competing department store Myer. Their quirky, unique and sexy aesthetic have maintained a strong cult following proving why they continue to be the name uttered on satorialist-crazed women around the world.

Their latest pre fall ’11 collection titled Papa Sucre features modern designs and cuts with a strong focus on the neutral colour palette consisting of black, white, grey, hints of khaki and their signature black and white print. Papa Sucre features metallic elements, feathered collars and hard copper belts while upholding their amazing attention to detail with draping, pleats and folds in all the right spots. Papa Sucre is available in store and online now and honestly, I think this is one of their strongest collections yet.
